Terms of use,
the plain-English version

How this website, our bookings and the poker room upstairs all work. We wrote this ourselves, no law firm involved, so it should take about two minutes to read and it means what it says.

What this site is for

Joyfuldayout.info is our online front door. It tells you what's cooking, when the kitchen runs and how the poker nights work. Anything you send through it, a booking request or a question, lands with the same people who'll seat you when you walk in.

A few ground rules about the site itself:

  • Use it to find us, book a table or join a poker night. Please don't scrape it, copy the text for your own site or pretend to be us.
  • Menus and hours change with the season and the odd public holiday. We keep the site current, but if you're driving from Timaru for a specific dish, check before you leave.
  • Where we link out, Google Maps for instance, those pages belong to someone else and their terms apply there.

Bookings, and what to do when plans change

A booking through the site is a request, and it becomes a booking when we confirm it. We answer every one personally, usually within a few hours on service days.

1

Send the request

Use the book-a-table buttons, email us or ring the venue. Tell us the night, the size of your party and whether you're after dinner, a seat at the poker table or both.

2

We confirm it

Nothing is locked in until we've replied. Three poker tables and a small dining room fill faster than you'd think on a Saturday, so earlier is always better.

3

If plans change, tell us

That's the whole ask. A phone call or a quick email the moment you know. We hold tables about fifteen minutes past the booking time, then a walk-in may get the seat, because a no-show on a busy night costs a small room real money.

the decent thing

Running late? Ring us.

Same number you booked on: +64 3 366 2941. We'd rather shuffle a table than lose the seat altogether, and we'll do our best to fit you in later.

Big groups and whole-room nights need more notice to change. We'll tell you exactly how much when you book.

Card room rules: read before you sit down

The poker room runs Thursday to Saturday from 7pm. Three tables, a caller at each, and a short list of rules that keep the games good.

  • 18+, strictly. Photo ID gets checked at the stairs every time because our licence depends on it.
  • Social, in-person poker only. All poker games are social and played face to face in the venue. There is no online casino or betting here, and nothing on this website lets you place a wager.
  • Play within your limits. If the night stops being fun, take a break or have a quiet word with the caller. Skipping a week beats chasing one.
  • The caller rules the table. Disputes go to them, and their call on the night is final.

Please note: Joyful Day Out is not an online casino or betting platform. All poker is in-person, social, and venue-based. Card room entry strictly 18+.

Conduct in the venue

Most of this is what you'd already expect. It's written down because a shared room runs better when everyone can see where the lines are.

Treat the room well

Staff, other guests, the furniture. Rowdy is fine, the poker tables get loud and we like it that way. Abusive isn't, and we step in early.

Our call stands

If we judge someone's had enough to drink or is spoiling the night for others, we can refuse service or ask them to leave. It rarely happens, but the call is ours to make.

Photos & privacy

Snap your dinner all you like. If other guests or players are in frame, ask first. The poker room runs on trust as much as cards.

Be the tablemate you'd want to draw and you've got the idea. Families are welcome on the restaurant floor at dinner hours; upstairs stays 18+.

05 / The legal bit, kept short

Website content & liability

Everything written and photographed on this site belongs to Joyful Day Out Limited. You're welcome to share links and tell people about us. Lifting the text or photos for your own commercial use isn't on.

We work to keep the details accurate (menus, hours, what's on this week) but things change faster than a website sometimes does. If a specific detail matters to your visit, confirm it with us directly before you set off.

On liability: we take care, but we can't promise the site will always be up, always current or free of errors, and we aren't responsible for losses that come from relying on it. Nothing on this page takes away any right you hold under New Zealand consumer law; those stay exactly where they are.

The one-line version

We do our best; check the things that matter.

The site is a guide and the venue is the truth. If something on here disagrees with what the crew tells you on the night, the crew wins.

Changes to these terms

When something real changes, new hours, a different booking setup, an extra poker night, we update this page instead of burying it in footnotes. The stamp on the left shows the last time we touched it.

Keep using the site after an update and you're accepting the new version. If a change would affect a booking you've already made, we'll contact you directly. You shouldn't have to spot it here first.
